Imagine being unable to walk without some sort of aid for the better part of a decade, and then technology comes along to help you walk normally.

Jamie Wilkinson was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 15 years ago.

And for the past seven years she's needed a cain, wheelchair or walker to go about her daily business.

But today she walked for only the second time with the help of new technology that stimulates her muscles electronically and allows her to walk properly.

"I'll try anything but like I said before this is the first thing I have felt immediate results from. No fatigue. Now I can walk and just it's awesome. It's something I never thought I'd do again," Wilkinson said.

The technology can help patients with central nervous disorders like Cerebral Paulsey or stroke victims.

"The hand device or the leg device takes the middle man out. It's now the brain now so it stimulates the muscles to get the reaction of the foot coming up or the hand opening up," said Jacob Stowe an Amarillo occupational therapist who treats patients with the device at Progressive Step Rehabilitation Services.

"Ihope to one day dance again," said Wilkinson, who has two daughters and she's hoping by the time they get married she'll be able to walk with them down the aisle.
