AT&T moving headquarters from San Antonio to Dallas

DALLAS (AP) _ Dallas business leaders are welcoming today's news that AT&T is relocating its corporate headquarters from San Antonio.

AT&T chairman Randall Stephenson says being headquartered in Dallas will benefit the company's long-term growth prospects and human resources.

The area has two airports and is home to American Airlines and Southwest Airlines. Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff says AT&T "outgrew'' San Antonio.

The former San Antonio mayor says AT&T was a "small company,'' relatively speaking, when it moved from St. Louis in 1992. Wolff also says he and current Mayor Phil Hardberger met with Stephenson this week and the CEO gave no indication that AT&T was planning to bolt.

AT&T expects the move to involve about 700 of its nearly 6,000 San Antonio-based workers heading for offices in downtown Dallas.
