Area Storm Damage Recap

Moments after tornado sirens sounded in downtown Amarillo around four Thursday afternoon, residents braced for the worst.

A ranch house off the Fritch highway about one mile south of El Rancho had windows blown out and fences pounded by hail.

But the Fritch highway was not the only location that saw the effects of the storm as it blew through.

Highway 60 near the Tyson plant: floodwater in a bar ditch reaches all the way up to the tree branches.

FM 1913 exit off of Loop 335: what looks like a trough is carried by wind into another bar ditch.

The Texas Department of Transportation office on Loop 335: a tree is uprooted with its branches littering the ground.

At the Rick Husband International Airport: an airplane hangar is lifted by the high winds and lands on top of a diesel truck.

Straight line winds like those strong ones on Thursday afternoon can cause just as much damage and could be just as dangerous as tornadoes.
