Water Wasters is Working!!, 6-17-08

Don't let the rain we've seen so far fool you. Water conservation is still a big issue in the Texas Panhandle. It's now time for our Weekly Water Wasters segment you'll see only on Newschannel 10. Newschannel 10's Kristen Guilfoos is on assignment:

Like last week, we are two for two again this Tuesday....thanks to the viewers who emailed in pictures of water wasters around town. Home Depot... the company known for "you can do it, we can help" is in need of some help themselves. Earlier this week, a broken sprinkler head was gushing all over the parking lot at the Home Depot on Soncy. Their landlord's company is the one in charge of taking care of the sprinklers. This isn't the first time this sprinkler head has been broken, and the manager, Randy Fix, tells me he's not shocked it's broken again. "It's a high traffic area and gets run over by trucks and trailers all the time. In fact, it was broken just three weeks ago and now it's broken again." As for the current status of the sprinkler in question, Randy tells me "we've contacted the realtor and they will be here [Wednesday] to fix it."

Now it's time re-visit a place we went to last week...Subway on Western. I spoke to the manager on the phone. "I called last week and spoke to someone who told me the broken sprinkler head situation was taken care of, and I ran it saying so, but the next day I received emails from a viewer saying that the sprinklers were still watering the street. I was hoping to talk to someone about this re-occurring problem." Good news... we can add now add Subway to the list of Water Waster success stories... the manager tells me she's very sorry for the waste of water and now they water in ten minutes segments, instead of forty-five, which she's hoping will help keep the street drier.
