Big Damage in Childress

Clean up continues throughout the day in Childress after severe weather rocked the town last night. From downed power lines to damaged homes the entire town has been hit hard.

Those winds have left one couple homeless.

Richard Proffit says, "The storm built in the northwest ... And I thought it was gone."

But the storm wasn't gone... It ripped the entire roof off of Richard Proffit's house... And landed on the other side of an alley.

Now the house he and his wife have lived in for 45 years is destroyed.

"I don't think the house is salvagable at all. I don't think we can save any of it." Proffits says.

Proffits home is one of the worst around Childress... But from the north to the south...east to the west...every neighborhood has been affected.

Mostly because the power has been knocked out.

"One of our largest concerns is getting the power back in town. They hope by the end of the day they'll have most of the power in the city powered back up. " Childress City Manager Jerry Cummings says.

Retirement communities had no air conditioning. The supermarket has thrown out all its meat and dairy.

And still many homes don't have power.
