Shumate Trial: Day 8, Defense's Turn In Shumate Trial

Defense attorneys had their turn in court defending Potter County Sheriff Mike Shumate.   Sheriff Shumate sat inside the Potter County Courthouse Wednesday, listening to witnesses testify on his behalf.

Pages of evidence were admitted by defense attorneys in their attempt to prove Sheriff Shumate not guilty of bribery and illegal campaign contributions.

Prosecutors say he wrote letters of recommendation for the food service company because he was being bribed by Mid-America food service company.

Defense attorneys say Shumate was not the only one who recommended the company.    In court sheriff Shumate made comments to his attorney's when those documents were presented as evidence. Several witnesses from both sides admitted to the issues the company had.   The defense team claim Shumate addressed the problems immediately.

Prosecutors painted a different picture, they showed the jury one of those recommendations that they say Shumate typed himself stating "There was not one occasion when services provided by Mid-America was not less than perfect".
