Singer won't testify

Associated Press - June 10, 2008 10:43 PM ET

CHICAGO (AP) - The R. Kelly trial jury will make up its mind without hearing from the defendant.

The R&B star doesn't plan to take the stand in his own defense.

Today's exchange with Judge Vincent Gaughan (GAWN) marks the first time Kelly has spoken at his child pornography trial. With the jury away, the judge told Kelly he had a right not to take the stand.

The singer responded: "I decided not to testify." The defense rested yesterday.

Kelly has pleaded not guilty to charges he videotaped himself having sex with an underage girl. Both Kelly and the alleged victim deny they're on the tape.

Kelly is 41; the alleged victim is now 23.
