City Has Plan to Aid Ailing Water Situation

With Lake Meredith levels getting lower everyday and water usage increasing steadily, the city comes up with a new plan to aid Amarillo's ailing water situation.

Their solution...six water wells that tap into the Santa Rosa Aquifer, which is just below the Ogallala Aquifer. They're expecting the water to help the city for many years to come.

"It's ongoing resource. It should be good for at least fifty years. The state has a plan in place to re-evaluate the situation every few years, so it should be an ongoing fifty year supply," says Floyd Hartman, who works for Amarillo Water Distribution.

The total project will cost around 2.25 million dollars and is expected to be completed by July 17th.
