NWTH ER Doctors Make Move to BSA

It is a switch more than three months in the making. Emergency room doctors from Northwest Texas Hospital are now treating patients in their new positions at Baptist Saint Anthony's.

The twelve doctors from Amarillo Emergency Physicians were prepared when they switched from Northwest to BSA at midnight June 1st. BSA spokesperson Mary Barlow says, "the ER staff had the opportunity to meet the doctors before work, they had orientation, and everything was ready to go for them."

So much so, that the wait time in BSA's ER was cut by a number of hours. Barlow says "on the busiest day we've had since they've been here, it was a one hour wait."

To fill the vacancies left by Amarillo Emergency Physicians, Northwest entered into a contract with an emergency management company, which has brought more than 20 doctors from around Texas on board at Northwest. Spokesperson Caytie Martin says, "we are able to, now, increase provider coverage from 48 hours to 68 hours."

And that sets the tone to meet long term goals. Martin says, "we have been looking forward to making this change to improve processes, increase patient through put and decrease wait times."

Both hospitals say there is no cause for concern from the public about the switch because patient care will remain the best possible.
