Water Wasters is Working!, 6-4-08

With water levels so high and lake levels so low, we figured now is the perfect time to launch our first Water Wasters segment, where we give viewers a chance to help conserve water around the city. NewsChannel 10's Kristen Guilfoos is on assignment:

Over the past week, I've received twelve emails from concerned viewers with pictures of businesses wasting water in our area. On Wednesday, I talked to three of those businesses about what they're doing about it. The first business on my list...Chase Bank. I got photos from viewers showing a broken sprinkler head at the 8th and Harrison location in Amarillo.  I called the Chase corporate office to ask what they're doing about it. Their answer... They weren't aware of the problem until I called, but I'm told they're getting the sprinkler head fixed and it should be back up and running efficiently by next week.

Next up... Walgreens on Fillmore and Amarillo Boulevard, which four viewers wrote in about, saying that the store is watering the sidewalks, as well as the grass. After I called them, they said that all three faulty sprinkler heads have been turned off and new ones have been ordered.

Last on the list for Wednesday...Foust Feeds. I called and spoke to their manager about their sprinklers watering the sidewalk. He told me they are aware of the problem and it will be fixed very soon. So, we're three for three for Wednesday. We'd like to keep tackling water wasters in our community, but we can't do it without your help. Thanks to everyone who sent in photos and please send in more if you see water wasting around town. You can email them to me at waterwasters@newschannel10.com.
