Polygamist Decision - Boy's Ranch Impact

Over 400 children taken by the state of Texas from a polygamist sect near San Angelo will return to their parents' custody.

The Texas Supreme Court upheld a ruling by the Texas Court of Appeals, which said the children should be returned. Locally, 72 children are currently at Cal Farley's Boy's Ranch in state custody.

Boy's Ranch president Dan Adams says they will abide by the state's ruling, but is unsure when the children will leave.

He says, "we've been allowing visits between the families and the boys and I think that's gone relatively well under the circumstances. It will be interesting these next few days to see how it all flushes itself out."

Child Protective Services issued this statement today:

"We are disappointed, but we understand and respect the court's decision and will take immediate steps to comply. Child Protective Services has one purpose in this case - to protect the children. Our goal is to reunite families whenever we can do so and make sure the children will be safe. We will continue to prepare for the prompt and orderly reunification of these children with their families. We also will work with the district court to ensure the safety of the children and that all of our actions conform with the decision of the Texas Supreme Court."
