Deadliest Year for Tornados Since 1998

2008 is already the deadliest tornado year in the U.S. since 1998 and we could be on track for a record number of twisters this year as well.

That's according to the National Weather Service. Experts say this year's storms seem to be unusually powerful, but meteorologist at the Storm Prediction Center in Oklahoma say they cannot explain exactly why this is happening.

The brutal numbers for the U.S. so far this year are at least 110 dead, 30 killer tornados and a preliminary count of more than 11,000 twisters.
