Man Murdered on Amarillo Boulevard

A night on the town ended in gunfire on Sunday. It all started when a fight broke out inside the La Pachanga bar on Amarillo Boulevard East around 1 AM. As the fight escalated, it spilled out into the parking lot.

When investigators arrived, they say the area was littered with broken beer bottles and blood. As they were still working the scene, Detectives got the call that 26 year old Manuel Rudy Sanchez had been taken to the hospital by friends. He had been shot several times in the upper body during the bar brawl. He died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Officials say they have the man responsible in custody, but are not releasing his name at this time. "At about one pm this afternoon, we arrested a hispanic male, 26, for this murder," says Potter-Randall Special Crimes Lt. Gary Trupe. Special crimes has yet to find the gun, and they have limited details on the weapon, but Lt. Trupe says initial evidence points towards a revolver of some sort.

There were about 20 to 25 people in the bar when the fight broke out, but most of them had already fled the scene by the time police got there. Detectives say they're hoping those who saw the fight can help answer some questions. "Hopefully some other witnesses or some other people that were at the bar when this fight broke out will contact us. We would like to have that information to see what took place. We don't know what precipitated the fight. Who started it. Is it our victim? is it our suspect? we don't know." An official autopsy will preformed on Sanchez's body in Lubbock on Monday.

If you have any information on this murder, you can call Potter-Randall Special Crimes at 378-9468. It's been quite a busy week for the special crimes unit. This is just one of several murders in the last week or so, but it is the only one that an arrest has been made.
