Your outdoor air conditioning unit could be a prime target for thieves.  That's because more are stealing the copper wire from the units.

The Randall County Sheriff's Office says copper theft has been and still is a huge problem for investigators.

In a matter of minutes, they cut the wire from an air conditioning unit, throw it in their vehicle and speed away.

The Sheriff's Office says the price of copper has gone up considerably in recent years.

And thieves have a favorite copper hot spot.  Capt. Roger Short says "that's why it's so attractive. Especially at new home sites. That's where we're seeing it the most. At new home construction.

Short says you can help out law enforcement by keeping an eye on new home construction in your area.
