Spending Up For Mother's Day

High gas and food prices are not deterring consumers from spending their cash on mom this Mother's Day.

We spoke with several store owners today who say business is not only good, but better than last year.

"It's at least 20% up from last year. The traffics been real hot I don't know. I guess it's from the rebate checks or stimulus things or something. And for mom they don't hold back."

Tristen Connor says he is thinking economically this year by giving his wife a gas card. "As expensive as gas is right now I think it's a pretty good gift. Just trying to take the kids to school and back, and taking care of my errends. You know she's greatly appreciated and I love her very much."

The National Retail Federation says consumers are spending an average of $138 each.

Total U.S. spending for Mother's Day alone is expected to reach $15.8 billion.

Dining out tops the list as the most popular gift, followed by jewelry and flowers.
