25% of Texas 8th Graders Fail Math On TAKS Test

Eighth grade students are improving when it comes to passing the math portion of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills test or TAKS, but a quarter of all students failed the test.

Wednesday, the Texas Education Agency released the results of the most recent round of TAKS testing. The number of 8th grade students who pass the test have increased about four percent over last year. 83 percent of fifth graders passed the test on the first try.

Students who did not pass will have two more chances to pass this year before they are held back.
