Legislation Introduced For Ute Pipeline Project

Legislation is introduced in New Mexico today for a $327 million dollar project to pump water into Curry and Roosevelt counties.

The Eastern New Mexico Rural Water System Authorization Act would create a pipeline to pump water from Ute Lake to towns in the Clovis and Portales area.

New Mexico Senator Jeff Bingaman first introduced legislation for this project in 2004 and says that New Mexico is ready to take the next step in making this a reality.

The legislation is set to go before the Energy and Natural Resources Committee in Washington D.C. before it can be voted on.
