A strong economy and low unemployment are the reasons Texas Governor Rick Perry has announed a tax cut for small businesses across the state.

Those attributes are also evident in Amarillo.

In 2007, the state of Texas created more jobs than any other state in the nation, which resulted in record-low unemployment.

Amarillo is in keeping with that trend. The city's unemployment rate hovers just about three percent. Gary Mohlberg of the Chamber of Commerce says the many areas of labor in Amarillo make a huge contribution to the low unemployment rate.

Mohlberg also says big businesses needing highly skilled workers contributes to the thriving job market. Companies like Bell Helicopter and ScottCo tell us they have had to stay competitive in wages, salaries and benefits packages to offer to their candidates.
