Local Parents Can Expect Tougher Toy Guidelines

After a slew of recalls in 2007, parents can now expect tougher scrutiny from toymakers, when it comes to child safety.

The Toy Industry Association is making that move in hopes of restoring consumer confidence.  The association has announced design hazard analysis, checks on manufacturing, and safety testing.

Parents we spoke with who've had to get rid of recalled toys, are happy to hear it. I'm glad that they're working towards not having to recall so many toys and working to prevent all of that because it is a headache when it happens and it's frustrating, said Amarillo mom Abby Hudgins.

Frustrating not only for parents, Hudgins says, but kids too. Her children became attached to the toy they had to return because of a recall.
