Families Displaced After Fire Burns Home

Three families are without a home tonight after watching their property burn this afternoon.

Right now those families are safe in local motels thanks to the Panhandle American Red Cross who provided shelter, food and water for evacuees. They say people were scared for their safety and concerned for their homes because most of them did not have their personal belongings with them.

"It's so important to be prepared for any kind of disaster. To have your belongings ready to go at a moments notice especially your valuables, sentimental things, your pets, your medication so you can pick-up and leave." said Red Cross Executive Director Vicky Richmond.

Richmond also says the displaced families are devastated after losing all of their possessions in the fire. The organization says they did not treat anyone for injuries and twenty evacuees have been able to return home safely. They remind everyone to sit down with their families and prepare an emergency disaster kit  because many evacuees were without medication.
