Flu Cases Surge...You Can Help

Amarillo's flu season is at it's peak and health officials say you can do more to prevent the spread of the virus.

Doctors warn if you're sick stay home and that's what area Independent School Districts say is happening. They report attendance is down from students staying home with the virus. Employers say less people are showing up for work. Local health officials say they're seeing an increase in cases over this time last year, and they offer this advice to cut down on all flu activity.

"The best way to prevent the flu is the flu shot, washing your hands, covering your mouth when you cough and sneeze and stay away from sick people and if you are sick don't go to work cause you don't want to spread the flu to co-workers." says Casie Stoughton at the Health Department.

Health officials also say it's not too late to get the flu shot.
