Poor Marks for State Gun Control Good News to Local Businesswoman

Charli Stokes, Local Gun Shop Owner Charli Stokes, Local Gun Shop Owner

Poor marks for Texas gun control are good news to one local businesswoman. The report card comes from the Brady Campaign to prevent gun violence and ranks the lone star state near last place when it comes to controlling firearms.

The president of the group's Texas based organization tells me what's most troubling is the state is without mandatory background checks on all gun purchases. Charli Stokes runs background checks on her customers, but says private people who sell guns should not have to do that.  "Do you wanna keep the little eighty-year-old lady who had a revolver in her home from giving it to her son without coming down and paying a dealer to do that?" asks Stokes.

For her, a low score on gun control means Texas laws are not trampling on people's rights when it comes to regulating firearms.  She says laws in place right now provide enough protection from gun crimes.  Texas Brady Campaign warns without universal background checks, it's simply too easy for criminals to get their hands on a gun.
