Polk Street United Methodist Church Mission Highlights

On the first Saturday of each month volunteers meet at the High Plains Food Bank from 9:00 a.m. - Noon to help sort and box food donations to be distributed to those in need around the Panhandle.  For more information contact Ken Hollabaugh at 352-3245 or Kevin Deckard at 374-2891.

Hamlet Kid's Cafe ensures that children, who otherwise wouldn't receive an evening meal, are fed a nutritious dinner. PSUMC volunteers meet at Hamlet Elementary School on the 1st & 2nd Tuesdays and the 3rd & 4th Fridays of each month. We help serve meals to children in the afternoon from 4:15 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. For more information call our coordinator, Glenda Guthrie, at 376-6427 or Kevin Deckard at 374-2891.

Polk Street UMC is committed to helping support refugee families who have fled to the United States as a result of persecution.  Currently we are helping a family from Burma. Some of our needs are funding, transportation, friendship, and helping them to assimilate into the American culture.  If you are interested in helping please contact Kevin Deckard at 374-2891.

Polk Street United Methodist Church has recently completed its 2nd annual mission trip to the 4 Corners Native American Reservation.  The first trip to Thoreau, New Mexico in 2006 consisted of 3 members from the church and this past trip to Aneth, Utah in 2007, the team grew to 8 members.  The purpose of both trips was to help build churches for new Native American Indian United Methodist congregations.  We are in the early planning process for our 2008 trip and invite anyone interested in participating financially or physically to call Kerry Knorpp or Kevin Deckard.
