A local pastor's comments are sparking controversy over how Amarillo helps its homeless. He believes Amarillo's generosity is keeping homeless people on the streets.
Pastor Don Lane insists local agencies have good intentions, but he says their free services are actually part of the city's homeless problem. Lane runs an inner city youth program and says many transient people who roam downtown won't get on their feet because it's so easy to live off handouts in Amarillo.
"There's people that feed you here, you have free medical, you have a place to spend every one of your days, you have agencies that'll put you up at night, you have everything that you need here to live on the streets perpetually," says Lane.
