Police Standoff in Amarillo

Officers tell us they were at the Sungate Apartment Complex today to serve 25 year old Roman Martinez with a warrant.

They say that warrant was for a bond forfeiture for assaulting a public servant in 2007.

When Martinez saw police, they say he jumped out of the van he was in and fired one shot from a rifle. He then took off running into the apartment complex. Police say they believe he is in the complex right now.

Every entrance to Sungate is blocked off at this time. Police say they are sweeping the property apartment by apartment to find martinez.

He also is believed to have been involved in a shooting at an Amarillo nightclub on January 12th.
