Local Officers Cleared in Christmas Day Shooting

Two local officers involved in a fatal Christmas day shooting are now cleared of any fault.

A grand jury no-billed both officers for their roles in a confrontation with 34-year-old Duane Schneider.

"The grand jury has determined there was absolutely no wrongdoing on the part of the police officers in regards to that case. And that their actions were justified," says 47th District Attorney Randall Simms.

Corporals Richard Ray and Eddie Stallings say they were trying to arrest Schneider when he tried to ram them with his car. Police then shot him. Schneider was able to drive off two blocks and crashed into a house. He died of the gunshot wound.
