Former Lefors Teacher Accused of Sexual Misconduct

A former area teacher is accused of sexual misconduct, and the alleged conduct happened nearly 20 years ago.

Michael Downes was a teacher in Lefors back in 1989. Now he's the superintendent in Big SprinFormer Lefors Teacher Accused of Sexual Misconductg.

But it's his time in Lefors that has him under investigation by the State Board of Educator Certification.

Officials confirm that a former student is coming forward accusing Downes of sexual misconduct while he was in Lefors in 1989.

Downes allegedly had inappropriate relations and sexual contact with some of his students there.

Our affiliate in Midland says they have reliable sources saying that Downes is considering a lawsuit against his accusers, and they say some school board members claim the accuser is a disgruntled former employee that is making the complaints.

The school board met with Downes Thursday evening to discuss the allegations, and they will take no action. They say they do not have access to the case, and they can't make a decision at this time.

Downes lawyer says they will meet with the State Board of Educator Certification on January 30th.

There is no word when the the investigation will be completed.
