New Lead in Area Arson Investigation

Investigators in one area community are examining a new lead in a serial arsonist case.

An unidentified witness has come forward today who could help investigators catch whoever is behind the fire that burned three thousand acres in Fritch and started up to 11 other blazes.   The new tip is one of several Hutchinson county investigators are relying on to bring an arsonist to justice before fire season reaches full swing.

"We're going to have even worse conditions than we did two years ago...we've got to do everything we can do to stop this activity," says Danny Richards of Hutchinson County Emergency Management.

Officials are revealing little about their most recent witness information on the fires. "They think they may have seen some activity that may have led to that," says Richards, referring to the new witness.  Nearby land owners hope the mystery is solved quickly.

"It's scary, I don't know what kind of thrill you would get out of destroying other people's property," says Lee Roberts, whose property was charred in one of the fires.

Officials say seven fires set in Hutchinson county since November have caused minor injuries, but destroyed no homes. Investigators hope to stop the danger before it gets any worse.
