Home Not Selling? Here's Why.

If you are having trouble selling your home, the reasons why may not be what you think.

Amarillo's housing market isn't as serious as the housing crisis we're seeing in other parts of the country.

Still, selling a home can be a challenge.

And the reasons your home hasn't sold yet may come as a surprise.

Realtors tell us most of their clients are looking for the same thing: the classic American house....3 bed, 2 bath, 3 car garage attached, according to Lyndon Latham, President of the Amarillo Association of Realtors.

"I really liked this house because of the big closets, bedrooms, I like the 3 car garage," said Kim DeBons a recent home buyer.

Since the mortgage crisis, many who would otherwise be able to buy the classic American house cannot afford it because of new national guidelines set by mortgage companies.

Another reason is all about air. Latham says there's a greater expectation on the part of buyers. They want central heat and air even in small houses.

For those trying to sell older homes, well the reason is simple.  The majority of buyers prefer newer homes.

A lot of homes for sale now in Amarillo are older, with traditional living and dining rooms.

But Latham says many buyers are looking for more open floor plans seen in newer homes.
