Local Families Waiting on Lethal Injection Debate

Some local families say the supreme court debate over lethal injection is delaying their personal justice.

The fate of several local killers on death row is now uncertain. Randall County District Attorney James Farren says it's not about whether the supreme court decides the lethal injection cocktail is unconstitutional, but how long it takes the court to make a decision.

"If they handed down a decision next week Texas would probably begin scheduling executions again almost immediately. The problem is they're not gonna hand down a decision next week. At best it's gonna be months."

Farren notes Texas could simply change its chemical concoction for lethal injections if the current kind is ruled cruel and unusual. Local death penalty opponents say any challenge to executions is a step in the right direction.
