A New Bishop in Amarillo

The Archdiocese of Amarillo bids farewell to one bishop and welcomes another.

Bishop John Yanta served in Amarillo for eleven years and submitted his resignation today.  He was appointed by the late Pope John Paul the Second.

Yanta is succeeded by Patrick Zurek, whose previous post was in San Antonio.

Zurek says he is looking forward to his new position and working with his new peers.  He previously worked in Austin and in missions in Honduras.  He is also actively involved in the Pro-Life Ministry.

John Yanta will serve as the Apostolic Administrator until late February, when Zurek will officially become the eighth bishop of Amarillo.
