Clovis group wants vote on Sunday alcohol sales

CLOVIS, N.M. (AP)  A Clovis group that wants a vote on Sunday liquor sales by the glass in the city has turned in a petition for an election.

City Clerk LeighAnn Melancon says her office has until Friday to verify the signatures on petitions from Clovis Progress.

The group needs 725 valid signatures to get the issue on the
March 4 municipal election ballot.

Clovis Progress spokesman Robin Howe said the has collected
about 2,000 signatures.

The group circulated a similar petition last year and submitted
875 signatures. However, only 575 were valid.
