Homeless in the Cold

The cold weather is a danger for the homeless throughout Amarillo.

Many shelters open early on days like today to help these people keep warm all day.

But that's not the only concern, there is also the sickness danger the winter weather brings along.

"Oh yeah, there for a while we had the creepy crebblers going around...it can lead to pneumonia," said Tommy Smith, a guest of Tyler Resource Center.

There are some shelters trying to help though. Tyler Resource Center has provided flu shots to their guests to try and prevent the problem.

"Of course lots of colds or flu. We've offered flu shots several times. We're hoping it wont increase," said Kelly Stephens of the center.

Even with the cold there are some who choose to stay outside rather than come in.
