A wanted man is dead after a police shooting in a west Amarillo neighborhood.

Lieutenant Gary Trupe says 34-year-old Duane Schneider slammed a mustang into two police cars as he tried to avoid arrest this morning. According to reports, Schneider later crashed into a vacant house after police tasered him and shot him.

A neighbor says she saw him slumped to the side in the driver's seat after the crash. "One officer pulled him from the car and several other officers came on the scene and they also started helping him to get him out.

They laid him to the ground and cut his shirt open and started CPR," says a neighbor who did not want to be identified. Schneider was wanted on warrants in Potter and Randall counties. The APD Special Crimes Unit is investigating the incident.

The two officers who confronted Schneider are now on three days of standard administrative leave.
