Former Richardson Cabinet Member Joins District 3 Race

Former New Mexico Indian Affairs Secretary Benny Shendo Junior joined the race for the Third Congressional District.

Shendo says his priorities in Congress will include education and Veterans.

He called the Bush Administration's No Child Left Behind Act demoralizing because of the unfunded mandates.

He says in his Cabinet Job in New Mexico, one of his priorities was making sure Veterans received their benefits.

Other candidates running for the Third Congressional District include:

Democrats Santa Fe developer Don Wiviott, Santa Fe County Commissioner Harry Montoya, Public Regulation Commissioner Ben Ray Lujan, and Albuquerque attorney Jon Adams.

On the Republican side, a former aide to Senator Pete Domenici, Marco Gonzales, has announced.
