A local strip club is part of a group suing the state of Texas...saying the state mandated surcharge on visitors is unfair.
The Texas Entertainment Association filed that suit Wednesday against Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott and Comptroller Susan Combs. The lawsuit argues the fee is unconstitutional because it unfairly targets strip clubs. The five dollar charge was approved by the legislature this year and is set to take effect on January 1st. The proceeds are expected to raise 40 million dollars for sexual assault prevention programs. State officials say they will seek to uphold it.
