Proposed Hooker Beef Plant in Question

Smithfield may never build their proposed beef plant in Hooker.

After 11 months of delays, the company now says it will take three to five years before they make a decision.

Some in the area have publicly questioned whether Smithfield ever actually planned to build the plant.

Many suspect they just used Oklahoma in a plan to buy out longtime rival Swift and Company.

But a Brazilian Meat Company, not Smithfield, ended up buying Swift last May.

If built, the plant would employ 3,000 people, and process 5,000 head of cattle a day.
