Childress Judge Indicted

A Childress County grand jury has now returned indictments against one hundredth district judge David McCoy.

Judge McCoy is not in jail , but he won't be on the bench Friday either. Judge McCoy must now answer for crimes he is accused of committing while in office. A judge going before a grand jury in his own district is a first for the people in this courthouse.

Judge McCoy is charged with theft by a public service and abuse of official capacity.

Mccoy has served as one hundredth district judge nearly fifteen years, and was district attorney before that. Defense attorney Bill Kelly says for McCoy, the indictments are neither unexpected nor evidence of guilt.

We are told two warrants for judge McCoys arrest are to be issued Friday morning.
