Childress Police Shooting Update

A Childress man accused of bringing a shotgun into the police station is now in the Childress County Jail.

According to the Childress County sheriff, 39-year-old Jeff Whitten was released from Northwest Texas Hospital where he had been recovering from a gun shot wound.

He is charged with aggravated assault to a peace officer with a deadly weapon.

The DPS says Whitten received those charges because he refused to put down a gun when police ordered him to do so. That is when an officer shot him in the arm.
