Tonights distinguished lecture series speaker for Amarillo College has had both a book and a movie made about his life.
Christopher Gardner inspired the movie Pursuit of Happyness starring Will Smith.
The story tracks a time in his life when he overcame homelessness while taking care of his young son.
Before speaking at AC's lecture tonight, Gardner spoke at Faith City Ministries this afternoon.
There were past and current resident's of the shelter at the conference and one former resident of Faith City told us how his story affected her life.
"As soon as I saw it, it struck a chord and made me cry. I could relate being on the street with two kids in the cold not knowing where my next meal was coming from...it really struck me," said Jalee Chavez.
Amarillo College teamed up with Faith City Ministries to sponsor the lecture tonight.
When Amarillo College wanted Chris Gardener as distinguished lecturer we thought there was no better partner than Faith City Ministries because Chris' story mirrors the story of so many men in this room," said Ellen Green of Amarillo College.
This was Gardner's last stop in Texas of many, and I am glad I was able to see him because his story of diligence was very inspiring to me as I'm sure it was to many others.
