Canyon PTA New Driver Program

Parents in Canyon are working to make roadways safer for their young drivers.

Earlier this evening the Canyon High School PTA sponsored "Fast and Furious-Teen and New Drivers."

The program was geared to get parents more involved as their child is learning to drive.

"I'm hoping that they realize how important this is. Its their child's life. That they need to be actively involved in watching that child as they develop their driving skills," said Cpl. Jerry Neufeld, Amarillo Police Department.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, car crashes are the leading cause of deaths among teens across Texas, and the cause of two out of every five teen deaths across the country.
