Bush Threatens Veto

The White House says President Bush will veto

a 50 billion-dollar war-funding bill if it comes to him.

The bill calls for most troops to come home by next December.

White House press secretary Dana Perino today called the

legislation the ``height of irresponsibility,'' and accused

Democrats of trying to appease liberal anti-war groups.

The president has already begun withdrawing some troops but

fiercely rejects the notion of setting a timetable for the war.

But the bill was enough to win the support of three leading

anti-war Democrats in the House, which is expected to pass the bill

later today.

Last week the three Democrats had expressed opposition to the

measure on the grounds it was too soft and did not demand an end to

combat.
