Community College Enrollment Up

With college tuition costs going through the roof, Texas college students are going the community college route to save money.

Reports just out say more college students in Texas attend community colleges than public universities.

In fact, the Texas Higher Education Board reports 48 percent of college students are enrolled in community college, as opposed to 41 percent enrolled at public universities.

And students we talked with say money is the main reason they choose community college.

This fall, Texas community colleges grew twice as fast as public universities.

Along with the attractive lower cost, some say the quality of a community college education has also improved.

The Texas Higher Education Board reports enrollments this fall increased by 24-thousand students.

And more than half of them go to community colleges.

The board estimates by 2015, as much as 70 percent of college enrollment will be at community colleges.
