Amarillo Pirates of the Canyon Balloon Rally

The second Amarillo invitational balloon rally kicked off today and KZBZ's Brianna Goodloe went to check out some of the fun.

Weekend events for the Pirates of the Canyon Balloon Rally started at seven tonight but I was able to head down to the Palo Duro Canyon early this morning to get the pre-flight details...

The Amarillo Balloon Association is bringing together 22 balloons for the fun this weekend.

The events should be great entertainment for the whole family.

"22 balloons in Amarillo is awesome. So we want everyone to come out. Bring the kids, bring the families. Come out and join us. You can walk among the balloons and talk to the pilots. There will be programs and souvenirs available and t-shirts. The programs, take them up to the pilots, and have them sign them."- Travis Goodman, Member Amarillo Balloon Assc.

But more important than the fun and entertainment... Is the cause behind the efforts.

"Well the Amarillo College Foundation and Amarillo Balloon Association are partnering up to help raise money. Amarillo College Foundation gives scholarships to students so they can attend college, a very worth cause. So come out and support that and the Amarillo Balloon Association as we work together for that."

The first flight of the rally will be tomorrow morning at 7:30 and a couple more flights throughout the weekend.

My photographer Ruben and I got to take a ride in the Amarillo National Bank balloon and it was a beautiful sight...all flights are of course weather permitting but Doppler Dave says the weekend should be a little cooler but should be fine for ballooning.
