A trip to the grocery store can mean more than tonight's dinner. Amarillo residents can now receive medical services at a local United Supermarket.

Grocery store shoppers can see a doctor about a sore throat or even a sprained ankle, all in one trip.

Milk, eggs, medical check-up can all be on your grocery list. A local united supermarket has opened an in-store express care clinic.

Kasey Rowe with the clinic says, "We do the immunizations, vaccinations, we can do small wound care, we don't do lacerations or annual exams things like that, but we do do minor skin infections, rashes, nausea, vomiting, and that sort of thing. You know asthma, bronchitis, check blood sugars."

And several other medical services. Customers can see a doctor, physician's assistant or nurse practitioner in this room without the long waits.

Rowe says, "We're walk in basis so there's usually not much of a wait. Most of our office visits are 15 or 20 minutes because we don't do a lot of the extensive lab work and x-ray so we can stick to that."

Store shoppers I spoke with say they are thrilled about the clinic. Tonya Limas says, "It's pretty amazing especially when you have a little one and you don't want to go to the emergency room and wait forever, I think it's great."

Each visit is about fifteen to twenty minutes. The in-store clinic is located inside United supermarket at 45th and Bell. Hours are Monday through Friday 8 to 7 and weekends from 9 to 3. And most insurances are accepted.

The clinic is located next to the pharmacy and away from food items. In-store clinics are popping up around the state and major retailers like Wal-Mart and Walgreen's are expected to open stores in Amarillo in the future.
