A west Texas supermarket CEO is sharing his company's winning philosophy to help other businesses succeed.

Dan Sanders is the CEO of United Supermarkets.

The west Texas chain began a philosophy for their operation that puts people before profit.

"So often in business today we tend to start with performance and work our way towards peoplebut what the book suggests is thats really quite the opposite of what we should be doing. If we focus first on people, we understand that a culture driven, people centered organization is what ultimately wins in the market place then our performance will take care of itself," he said of the company philosophy.

Sanders wrote the book... "Built to Serve"... Which outlines how the philosophy works.

He says there are critics of the philosophy because people don't understand how leaving spreadsheets out of the equation can lead to a profitable outcome.

"The only way you'll fully understand what your potential is is if you engage your people in a caring and compassionate manner."

The book hit the shelves a couple weeks ago and is available everywhere books are sold.
