New Naturalization Test Ready

WASHINGTON (AP) - Immigration officials have whittled their list of questions for a new naturalization test.

The new questions will be given to test takers beginning in October of 2008.

A total of 100 civics and history questions are available for the new test.

Just as with the current test, applicants will have to correctly answer 6 of 10 questions asked orally and pass the English proficiency portion of the exam.

About 42 civics questions were dropped or revised to reach the final 100.

Among those that were dropped was -- Who said "give me liberty or give me death?"

The answer is -- Revolutionary War era patriot Patrick Henry.

The federal government has been trying out the questions since February in immigration offices and at classes in 13 states for English as a second language.
