2007 Child Death Updates

Joseph Diehl is the eighth child this year to die in the panhandle at the hands of an adult.

Eight children, and no convictions. NewsChannel 10 is digging into the charges facing these defendants.

We took a look at every baby murder case in the panhandle for 2007.

Gerardo Cardenas is charged with the death of three month old daughter Karina Gomez. Cardenas has pleaded not guilty, and has waived his preliminary trial. His arraignment is set for October 24 at 2:30.

Devin Jones is still in jail tonight, after being charged in April, with physical and sexual abuse, resulting in the death of his 6 month old daughter Quiona. Police say they are awaiting a full autopsy report before taking the case to court.

Michael Garrard is charged with murder of his girlfriends 14 month old baby boy, Evyn Vaughn. Officials are also waiting for a full autopsy report in this case.

Justin Womack used blunt force to kill his seven month old daughter Crystal, according to police. He is still behind bars, unable to make bond. He has been indicted by a grand jury and is awaiting trial.

Mario Torres has been indicted for murder and injury to a child. After his girlfriends two month old daughter, Jayda Ash, was found with third degree burns over 60 percent of her body.

Mary Lee Bolin posted a 100 thousand dollar bond in the case of her six week old daughters murder. She is a free woman tonight, awaiting trial.

The murder of a Portales baby is still on the loose tonight. Police say they are still investigating the nine month old baby girls death. Autopsy reports say she died of blunt force trauma.
