Old diseases are resurfacing as people choose not to vaccinate their children. According to the Texas Health Department the number of children getting immunized are down 2%.

New cases of the whooping cough have popped up in Dumas and Amarillo. Karen Day of Specialized Therapy Services said "the incidences of whopping cough or pertussis has increased significantly and the kids that are getting that whopping cough are going to the hospital and some children have died."

Most Doctors agree that by not vaccinating your child it hurts the child and the community.

"It's going to hurt the community by having more diseases that are absolutely preventable." said Dr. Ali, a local Pediatrician.

Dr. Ali also says once a child does catch one of these diseases, there is no treatment and parents will have to wait for nature to decide if there child lives or dies.

"What's happening here is peope are getting false perceptions that these vaccines are going to hurt their kids." said Dr. Ali

Ali adds, it will only hurt them if they don't vaccinate.
