"We usually have around 300 people that would like to get the vaccinations every year but its been tough to get that many vaccinations," said Joe Reed "We usually have around 300 people that would like to get the vaccinations every year but its been tough to get that many vaccinations," said Joe Reed

The government hopes an increase to the number of flu vaccines this year will compel more people to get the shot.

The Center for Disease Control says manufactures will ship more than 130 million doses of flu vaccine in coming months. Thats compared to 121 million in the past. The hope is that more people will get the vaccine, especially those who are most vulnerable, including senior citizens and young children.

It's not clear how many vaccines will make its way to the Panhandle. At the Senior Citizen Association of Amarillo, people are already asking how they can get their hands on the vaccines. "We usually have around 300 people that would like to get the vaccinations every year but its been tough to get that many vaccinations," said Joe Reed with the Association.

Reed says he expects around 200 vaccines to be available on October 9th at the center at 1217 S. Tyler.
